在星际迷航在线中有几种类型的任务;以主线故事为重点的剧情任务,在星区空间获得的发现任务和匹配任务。后两者侧重于地面或空间战斗,但剧情往往两者兼而有之。
剧情任务
剧情任务是构成星际迷航OL主要故事情节的一部分,这些任务是通过 任务列表获取的。任务被分成各个章节,聚焦于特定的故事,如克林贡战争或德尔塔象限。然而,在那些章节内有一些任务并没有直接与最重要的故事联系在一起。任务章节以前被称为剧集,然而“特写剧集”这个术语现在被普遍用于新的个人任务。
剧集和任务遵循与大多数其他MMORPG非常相似的结构。它们是从非玩家角色(NPC)接收的,添加到您的任务列表中,然后由玩家执行。玩家联系最初给出任务的NPC(最好是通过“呼叫星际舰队”按钮)来获得他们的奖励。某些内容目标在进入某个区域时自动给予玩家,例如星际基地24,或者在星区空间中遇到敌方信号内容。任务总时长一般在15分钟到1小时之间。

PvP 任务
PVP任务是通过地图上的PvP Queue获得的Player vs Player任务,玩家在战斗中直接相互竞争。
