Angry Birds Seasons is a discontinued video game developed and published by Rovio Entertainment. The second game in the Angry Birds series, it was originally released as Angry Birds Halloween in October 2010 for iOS devices, containing only the Trick or Treat chapter, before being given the current title in December 2010 with the release of Season's Greedings. This game is notable for introducing several major elements in the series, including the characters Bubbles and Stella.
The gameplay of Seasons is virtually unchanged from the original Angry Birds. As per the name, the game's episodes are themed around holidays and traditions from around the world, including Christmas and the Chinese zodiac. Seasons was regularly updated throughout the early-to-mid 2010s, with new episodes being added every few months; from 2014 onwards, most of the new chapters were outsourced to game developer Kuuasema. The final chapter, Ragnahog, was released in December 2016.
Angry Birds Seasons received mixed-to-positive reviews, with several critics noting a steep increase in difficulty compared to its predecessor. A remastered version of the game was released for consoles as part of Angry Birds Trilogy alongside the original Angry Birds and Angry Birds Rio. As with most Angry Birds games prior to Angry Birds Transformers, Seasons was removed from the App Store and Google Play in early 2019, although most of its features remain accessible. Despite this, the game has not been delisted from the Amazon Appstore and can still be downloaded to compatible devices as of 2025. Most of its levels are featured in Angry Birds Reloaded.
History
Angry Birds Seasons was released as a paid app exclusively for iOS in October 2010 as Angry Birds Halloween.[2] In December 2010, the game would be updated as Angry Birds Seasons due to the adding of another episode, Season's Greedings, though the Halloween levels were kept in an episode called Trick or Treat. Angry Birds Seasons would also receive a free release on Android and Symbian devices, though with ads included in it. The game would continue receiving updates with new episodes that celebrated the seasons and festivities of the years, until 2016 with the addition of Ragnahog, an episode made to celebrate Christmas, set in a Nordic theme.
On August 23, 2011, The Mighty Eagle was released for the game on iOS devices.
Seasons was formerly updated on a semi-monthly basis, each update adding a themed episode stylized by an upcoming holiday and usually two Golden Eggs. (The exceptions: Easter Eggs has 11 Golden Eggs (10 in PC and Mac), Summer Pignic has 3, Wreck the Halls has 3, Winter Wonderham has 3 (7 in the Intel Golden Egg on android devices, that got removed on December 1, 2016), Arctic Eggspedition has 4, South Hamerica has 3, Ham Dunk has 3, Tropigal Paradise also has 3 and Pig Days doesn't have any) Angry Birds Seasons is split into seven Seasons: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016.
Since version 3.2.0, power-ups were added in gameplay.
In April 2019, the game was unlisted in the app stores but came back and received a new update. Afterwards, it was then unlisted again in July 2019. However, the game is still available to download on compatible Amazon Fire devices as of March 2025. [3] Rovio Entertainment Corporation stated that they had removed the games for testing purposes, but never explained what the test was. Later, the statement was changed to say that the game was removed because Rovio did not want to keep updating the game,[4] now it is only available to download in the Zimbabwe app store.
In June 2021, it was announced by Rovio on Twitter that efforts were going to be made to bring some of the original Angry Birds games back to online stores sometime in the future, including Seasons.[5]
Plot
During Halloween 2010, the Angry Birds are distracted by a pig covered in a sheet to look like a ghost. The birds scream and the pigs take off with the eggs. They retrieve their eggs several more times and later come across Bubbles, the Orange Bird who helps them from Halloween 2011 and on from there. After retrieving their eggs several more times, they meet Stella, the Pink Bird who helps them during the Back to School season in 2012 and on retrieving their eggs several more times till Christmas 2016.
Gameplay
Angry Birds Seasons is a puzzle video game that plays virtually identically to Angry Birds: the player is provided with a roster of birds, whom they must launch with a slingshot to pop pigs sheltered in structures namely made of wood, glass, and stone. Three characters debuted in Seasons that would return in later games: Bubbles, who can inflate himself; Stella, who lifts objects with bubbles; and Tony, who can plummet down to the surface while in midair. Popping all of the pigs completes the level and awards the player with up to three stars based off their score. Unlike its predecessor, Seasons is set in holiday-themed episodes: for example, Go Green, Get Lucky is based off St. Patrick's Day and has decorations like pots of gold.
Later updates to the mobile version of Seasons feature Power-Ups, which are optional booster items that improve the player's performance in levels. Power-Ups could be obtained through in-app purchases when they were introduced; later updates added Coins, an in-game currency that is earned by collecting stars or by watching ads and can be exchanged for Power-Ups. The mobile version also has the Mighty Eagle, an in-app purchase from the original Angry Birds, and side quests that unlock cosmetics for the birds known as Bird Wear.
The power-ups in the mobile version of Seasons are as follows:
- Power Potion: Initially known as the Super Seeds, this power-up enlargens a bird, making it stronger than normal.
- Sling Scope: Enables the player to visualize the birds' trajectory after being launched from the slingshot, allowing for more precise shots.
- Homing Bird: Replaces the bird on the slingshot with a variant of Red that homes in to the first pig he approaches.
- Allaka-BAM: Places four explosive crates at random spots in the level.
- Two "Powerbirds": Shockwave, added in October 2014, and the Telebird, added in October 2015. Shockwave had appeared in Short Fuse in the original Angry Birds, being a stronger Bomb that creates an electrical shockwave upon exploding. The Telebird is a variant of Red exclusive to this game that teleports to a designated spot in the level, drawing in nearby items as well. Both Powerbirds have a level-up system that makes them stronger the more they are summoned.

Episodes
Angry Birds Seasons has 29 main episodes released, starting with Trick or Treat in October 2010 and ending with Ragnahog in December 2016. Most episodes commemorate different holidays of the year. The PC version only has the episodes up to South Hamerica and Pig Days from 2014. The mobile version has all of these episodes (except Pig Days) locked starting from the 5.3.1 version in October 2015, with the player needing to pay Coins to unlock them; each episode costs 15 Coins per main level. The mobile version's last episode was Ragnahog, in December 2016.

Music

Angry Birds Seasons is the first Angry Birds game to have songs in its soundtrack. There are a total of four songs released for the game: "Peace Song 2011", "Peace Song 2012: Fly Me Home Tonight", "Peace Song 2013: Ode to Snow", and "Peace Song 2014: Santamental Me".
Reception
Both Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Halloween received generally positive reviews both by critics and fan alike. In Metacritic, it holds a user score of 6.9 for the iOS version based on twenty-two ratings;[38] a 4.3 score for the HD version of the game released on the same platform based on nineteen ratings;[39] and a score of 7.8 based on twenty-two ratings for the PC version.[40]
Reviewing the Halloween version of the game, one reviewer at Slide to Play said that the game was hard, and that they "wondered why the game was not an in-app purchase for the original game". When the game was updated to Angry Birds Seasons in December, he said that he liked the idea of the Season's Greetings levels being like an advent calendar, with one level being added per day. He concluded saying that the game was a "Must Have" and that people who liked the original Angry Birds will be "pleased with Angry Birds Seasons".[41] Similarly, Chris Buffa from Modojo rated the game 5/5 and wrote that "Angry Birds Seasons is both addictive and challenging, and you'd be crazy not to pony up the cash and download it ASAP".[42]

Trivia
- Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day are the only three holidays to be represented in Angry Birds Seasons more than once. The summer holiday has appeared more than once, but it is in completely different settings from a picnic to Atlantis, to a continent, a volcano island and then a camp, while Spring events also differ (Go Green, Get Lucky, Easter Eggs, Cherry Blossom, Abra-ca-Bacon and finally Marie Hamtoinette).
- In February 2011, Rovio released a set of five Angry Birds Valentine's Day cards on Facebook which could be shared to your friends. The next year, Rovio would release another set of Valentine's Day cards on Facebook, these ones being different than the 2011 ones.[43][44] There were also cards for Lunar New Year, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas in the same year.[45][46][47][48][49]

2011
- Seasons 2010 and 2013 are the shortest seasons because they both have 2 episodes.
- Since Haunted Hogs, every "Level Failed" screen has a different screen. The only exceptions are South Hamerica (with Ham Dunk's) and Fairy Hogmother (with Marie Hamtoinette's). Pig Days' Level Failed screen shares the same one as the level's background the level has.
- The Ham Dunk update was the last version to have an icon featuring the updated versions of the classic designs. Starting with On Finn Ice, the designs from Angry Birds Toons would be used instead.
- However, Marie Hamtoinette, Summer Camp and the two Piggywood Studios updates would have the designs from the Angry Birds Movie on the app icons.
- Oddly enough in old versions, with the exception of Homing Bird and Allaka-BAM, the pictures for Sling Scope and Power Potion use the Mine and Dine and Ham 'Em High backgrounds from the original game.
