攻击方式 | Crush Pikmin with feet |
The Beady Long Legs (ダマグモ?,大意为:Orb Spider) is a boss in the first two Pikmin games. The only attack it has is stomping around, and its big feet crush any Pikmin they land on. Its weak spot is its orbicular torso; given its height, Yellow Pikmin are recommended. When defeated, it crumbles into dust and disintegrates after its belongings drop from its orbicular torso. The creature is in both the main game and Challenge Mode of both games it appears in.
In 皮克敏 2, the Beady Long Legs is colored with golds and browns, while in the first game it is primarily yellow and red and lacks the shiny, bumpy texture that it has in the second game. Its legs also appear more rectangular in Pikmin. Its appearances in the second game are slightly more common, with it having much less health, slower movements, a different shake, and makes different sounds. When at low health in either game, the Beady Long Legs will start smoking at its joints, and the creature's body will begin to flake away.
The Beady Long Legs does not appear in Pikmin 3 or Pikmin 4 but it is mentioned in entries of the Piklopedia regarding new Arachnorb bosses similar to it, the Shaggy Long Legs and Baldy Long Legs.

Behavior
The Beady Long Legs will remain out of sight until a leader or Pikmin enters its area. Once this happens, it will fall from the sky and land on the floor before repeatedly stomping around, which can crush Pikmin and leaders. When it stops moving, it will lower its torso in an attempt to rest. If multiple Pikmin have latched onto the creature, it will violently shake them off. Once defeated, the Beady Long Legs will not leave a body and instead turn to dust, similar to other Arachnorbs.

Strategy
以下内容包含指南。 |
模板:Todo Be careful when entering the boss's arena in Pikmin, since it can crush Pikmin when it falls down. This can catch unprepared players with large armies by surprise, though this was changed for Pikmin 2: the Beady Long Legs will not be able to harm Pikmin until its introduction animation is over.
As with all other members of the Arachnorb family in every game, a single movement cycle of Beady Long Leg's will always consist of 4 stomps ending with its legs in a perfect square pattern before checking to see if any Pikmin are latched onto its core. If there are then it will shake attacking Pikmin off before starting another cycle, and if not, it will stomp for one more cycle before checking again, and then resting. Knowing this pattern can help in formulating your own strategy, but there are tried and true methods as well.
When in combat, you should have no more than 30 Pikmin, as a large group can be hard to control and may cause a few deaths. Aim at its core and launch your Pikmin while being careful to not let those remaining in your squad get squished. Swarming will prove helpful to steer your immediate squad away from its attacks, but it won't direct any Pikmin that miss the core after being tossed, who will instead run towards and futily attack the closest foot. When it stops stomping, it is about to shake Pikmin off. Whistle them quickly or they might fall off and lose their bud or flower status. In Pikmin 2, the shake-off animation is much more violent and all Pikmin will be flung off, but in Pikmin a few may still remain latched after it shivers. Attacking its feet in Pikmin will not cause any damage.
If you have any amount of Yellow Pikmin, take a small portion of them and attack at will, but if not, bring twenty to thirty of some other types (preferably Red Pikmin), and wait until it has done its two attack cycles; after which it will lean down twice to rest. Ignore it the first time, and then as soon as it begins to lean again, quickly throw Pikmin at its body. This should allow the latched Pikmin more time to deal damage as the creature does its full stomp cycle.
Alternatively, a combination of Yellow Pikmin and Red Pikmin can be used. The Yellow Pikmin, when thrown at the creature's head, will weigh it down and lower it, allowing the Red Pikmin to be used without having to wait for the Arachnorb to rest. This detailed approach is only possible in Pikmin, as the enemy is not weighed down by Pikmin in Pikmin 2.
The Beady Long Legs can also be harmed by Pikmin attacking its feet; this is far more challenging and time-consuming, however. In Pikmin 2, only Purple Pikmin can damage the creature's feet with the shockwave they cause, but in the Japanese version of the game, any Pikmin type can also attack its feet with regular attacks. As such, an easy way to defeat the Beady Long Legs in the Japanese version of Pikmin 2 is to place around 25 flowered Red Pikmin on the location where each foot is going to be, and when the creature lands from above, its health will be dropped so fast that it will not have time to stomp even once, ensuring a clean and quick victory.模板:Cite youtube It may be difficult to determine exactly where the feet will end up at, though. This trick does not work in overseas versions of the game, nor the Wii releases,模板:Cite youtube and it may only work with some of the Pikmin in the party.模板:Cite youtube
In Pikmin, it is recommended to bring twenty Red Pikmin to the entrance of the arena, so they may bring the Guard Satellite through the fire geysers.
Leaders are completely incapable of hurting the Beady Long Legs.
Speedrunning
In Pikmin, the fastest way to defeat the creature is to have around 20 Red Pikmin and around 6 Yellow Pikmin with you. Before the boss lands, use / Wii 手柄上的方向键向下 to organize your party so that Red Pikmin are the closest to you. Walk into the arena, and begin throwing Red Pikmin so that they attach to the creature when it lands; when the Beady Long Legs falls down, its core reaches low enough for non-Yellow Pikmin to be thrown at it. Throw as many Pikmin as you can, using the swarm trick. When it shakes the Pikmin off, a few of them will remain attached. Carefully whistle the ones that got knocked down and throw them at the core again. The creature should be dead just as it's shaking the second time.模板:Cite youtube

Quirks
Presumed glitch
At one point, a glitch about this boss was documented on Pikipedia.模板:Cite web It was said to be a rare and dangerous glitch that would cause the Beady Long Legs in Pikmin to leave its arena. Once outside its boundaries, it would continue to pursue the player, and if coaxed into falling into the pit, the game would crash. It also claimed that the game could crash if left outside of its arena for too long, and that it could also happen with other bosses fought in arenas.
Despite the glitch's popularity, there was never any proof of it happening, though there were attempts.模板:Cite youtube In fact, without editing the game's files to force the boss's territory radius to be larger than normal, there is no known way for the Beady Long Legs to walk far from its starting point, as it will attempt to return to the center of the arena if it exits a certain radius. In addition to the Beady Long Legs being unable to escape its arena in normal play, the crashing element is a hoax: should the player move the Beady Long Legs to the pits at the edge of The Forest Navel and coax it inside, its model distorts to try to "step" in the pit, before merely despawning.模板:Cite youtube模板:Cite youtube Since the editor that documented the glitch did so anonymously, and a bit haphazardly, it is impossible to figure out any details about the origin of the glitch. In light of the failed attempts to replicate it, the "glitch" may have been a hoax.
Delayed fall
In Pikmin, the creature falls half a second after the player approaches it, but there is logic to make it take 5 seconds instead. In the final game, this happens if there are any sprouts in the area the moment the player approaches the boss.
This feature does not seem to follow any logical train of thought at first, but is actually the result of an oversight in the code. From what can be inferred from the code, the idea was to give players a chance to pluck any sprouts from Pikmin that died on that spot in a previous day while trying to fight the boss, by giving them five extra seconds before the fight begins.
Internally, when Olimar approaches the Beady Long Legs and sprouts exist in the area, the game attempts the following: go through each sprout, check if that sprout is close to the Beady Long Legs, and if so, perform the delayed fall. Instead, the game checks if Olimar is close to the Beady Long Legs, not the sprout.模板:Cite web This will always be true since Olimar being close is what triggers the Beady Long Legs to spawn in the first place.
This applies to all game modes and all versions of the game.
Unmarked Spectralids
In Pikmin 2, the Beady Long Legs is fully programmed to drop 25 Unmarked Spectralids upon death if it has no treasure. However, due to a mistake from the programmers, this does not occur, and it simply drops nothing.模板:Cite youtube

Trivia
- The Beady Long Legs is based on a 模板:W or kusudama, a type of party decoration in the form of a large hanging sphere that splits in half to release confetti or other small objects.
- The Beady Long Legs is shown during the last few seconds of a pre-release trailer of Pikmin. Here, the creature appears to be taller and have a reddish tint to its skin, as well as being in an outside area similar to The Forest of Hope.
- It is the only boss in Pikmin that has a unique boss theme besides the Emperor Bulblax.
- In the Citadel of Spiders cave in Pikmin 2, a shadow of a spider web is displayed on the arena floor. This also applies to the arena of the Raging Long Legs in the Hole of Heroes.
- The poison Louie describes may be oenanthotoxin, a poison known for causing a rigid smile. Alternatively, the poison could be causing Louie to have a gelastic seizure, a seizure accompanied by uncontrollable laughter.
- In the original English script, Louie simply says "Caution! Do not eat!" when referring to the Beady Long Legs. This would later be used for Shaggy Long Legs instead.
- There is an unused object in Super Mario Galaxy that looks like an organic ball, which opens up much like the Beady Long Legs' core. In addition, the item's internal name is
SpiderItemShell
, further connecting it to the pseudo-arachnid. - This enemy was meant to appear in Pikmin 3, but with its head changed to resemble one of its feet, as evidenced from some unused content in the game.
- In Super Mario 64 there is a quadrupedal spider-like enemy called a Scuttlebug that has a similar body pattern to the Beady Long Legs.
- In the 皮克敏 3 豪华版 Side Story Olimar's Comeback, the final stage has a Baldy Long Legs with a similar coloration to the Beady Long Legs. It is accompanied by a boss theme that combines the main 皮克敏 1 theme with instruments from The Forest Navel's theme.
- The roaring of the Beady Long Legs in Pikmin 2, and by extension the other two arachnorbs that reuse the sound, is a modified metal door sliding sound.
- The Beady Long Legs is the only enemy encountered in multiple games that does not appear in Pikmin 4.
- While the Beady Long Legs shares the same base texture in both Pikmin and Pikmin 2, the way that texture is mapped to its body is notably different in each installment.
