"Site-02 is an unforgiving place. Stay alert, adhere to protocol(s), and above all else — stay alive."
— SCP: SL Steam Page
SCP: Secret Laboratory (SCP: SL) is a free-to-play multiplayer horror game created by Polish game developer Hubert Moszka. It is actively maintained and updated by Northwood Studios.
SCP: SL was first released on the 29th of December, 2017. It was initially developed solely by Hubert Moszka as a Unity adaptation of the Garry’s Mod custom “Breach” gamemode. The game has since expanded both in scope and its development team; receiving many major updates and overhauls. Development is currently supported mainly off of Patreon donations.
SCP: SL is inspired by the SCP Foundation universe. The game is set during a breach at one of the Foundation’s facilities: Site-02. Multiple SCP objects have breached containment and Class-D Personnel have been let out of their cells. In the ensuing chaos, the Foundation, SCPs, and Chaos Insurgency all vie for control over the facility. Players assume the role of several classes; each being members of different factions and providing unique perspectives of the breach. The game is round-based, and each round will end after one faction remains standing.
Availability
As mentioned previously, SCP: SL is free-to-play and can be downloaded from the Steam store. The game can be run on the Windows 8.1 or 10 64-bit operating systems.
SCP: SL is only fully available in English, but its interface has been translated into many different languages including: Polish, Italian, German, Spanish, Czech, Russian, French, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Hungarian, Simplified Chinese, Serbian, Brazilian Portuguese, Romanian, Thai, Vietnamese, Catalan, and Lithuanian.
Gameplay
SCP: SL is centered around a catastrophic containment failure that took place at the SCP Foundation’s Site-02. The game is round-based, and to join a round the player must join a server off of the server list. There exists Official servers that are either hosted or endorsed by Northwood Studios and feature the intended gameplay of SCP: SL. Most servers, however, are hosted by the community and can contain various modifications that affect gameplay.
Classes
Upon the start of a new round, the player will be randomly spawned in as either a D级人员, 科学家, 设施警卫, or one of the playable SCPs. Players are immediately free to roam and interact with the facility and others. SCP: SL allows for all humans, by default, to use proximity chat to communicate. SCPs are capable of communicating directly with each other.
Civilian classes, such as Class-D Personnel and Scientists, are tasked with escaping the facility to become a militant class for their respective faction. To escape, they must find appropriate access cards to unlock checkpoints and gates to get to the Surface Zone. During this, they must avoid hostile SCPs and opposing humans.
Militant classes, such as 混沌分裂者 and 机动特遣队, are tasked with securing the facility for their respective faction. They must wipe out all opposing teams in order to achieve victory. Militant classes are typically given access to and spawn with several kinds of weaponry, including firearms and grenades.
SCP classes have the goal of eliminating all human presence within the facility. There are a variety of playable SCPs found within the game, each with differing gameplay. The playable SCPs present in-game include:
新怪谈-049: a plague doctor that is capable of resurrecting deceased humans into mindless grunts which fight alongside it.
新怪谈-049-2: reanimated corpses that follow SCP-049’s commands.
新怪谈-079: an artificial intelligence that supports its team by interacting with and controlling various facility systems.
新怪谈-096: a tall, pale humanoid that enters a raging fit upon having its face observed, giving chase to whoever glanced at it.
新怪谈-106: a rotting, decrepit humanoid that corrodes humans and teleports around the facility to hunt them.
新怪谈-173: a sculpture that when unobserved is able to snap the necks of any human near it.
新怪谈-939: a blind, transformed human that can mimic sounds to lure in and hunt prey.
Items
Human classes have the ability to pick up and use items. Certain classes, primarily militant ones, will spawn with items. There are several different items spread around the facility ranging from firearms, medical items, beneficial SCP objects such as SCP-500 and 文件:Updated2176Icon.pngSCP-2176, special weapons such as the Micro H.I.D., and much more.
The Facility
All players will have to navigate the facility regardless of class. Site-02 is divided into four main sections:
Light Containment Zone: a zone that was used for the testing of several anomalous objects such as SCP-914 and SCP-330. Class-D Personnel and Scientists spawn in this zone at the beginning of a round. Light Containment Zone will decontaminate after a period of time; locking down and gassing any remaining players inside. Notable rooms in this zone include: SCP-914’s Containment Chamber, Test Chamber 1, and the LCZ Armory. There are two elevators in this zone that lead down into Heavy Containment Zone.
Heavy Containment Zone: a zone that was used for the containment of multiple hostile anomalous objects and experimental weaponry. All playable SCPs will spawn in this zone at the beginning of a round. Heavy Containment Zone houses several important rooms for the game such as the Alpha Warhead Silo and Micro-HID Storage. Typically, Heavy Containment Zone is where most of a round will take place. Emergency Power Stations will also spawn around Heavy Containment Zone. These are used to unlock SCP-079’s Containment Chamber and subsequently initiate the Overcharge sequence. There are two checkpoints in this zone that lead to Entrance Zone.
Entrance Zone: a zone that contained offices and workplaces for Foundation staff. Facility Guards will spawn in this zone at the beginning of the round. Entrance Zone is typically used as transit to other sections of the facility. Gate-A and Gate-B are located in this zone and lead up to the Surface Zone.
Surface Zone: the above-ground section of Site-02. Mobile Task Force and Chaos Insurgents will respawn at this zone. This is also the zone where civilian classes go to escape the facility. Surface Zone contains the control panel for initiating the Alpha Warhead detonation sequence. Surface will be the only zone that won’t be affected by the Alpha Warhead’s blast post-detonation.
Respawning
If a player dies or joins mid-round, they will be placed into Spectator. Spectators can watch the breach unfold from the perspective of other players. After some time, players in spectator will be respawned as a militant class on Surface Zone. They will respawn as either a Mobile Task Force operative or a Chaos Insurgent.
Which team respawns is dependent on which has more Respawn Tokens. Teams gain respawn Tokens by completing objectives such as terminating opposing humans and containing SCPs.
Round Ending
Each round will typically end after a team has achieved their victory conditions; which typically happens after all other teams have been eliminated. There are four possible endings to a round: a Foundation Win, an Insurgency Win, an SCP Win, and a Stalemate. After the round has ended, text will appear and show each player specific stats of the round such as civilian escapes. The game will then begin a new round within a short amount of time.
