对于其他有镐力的物品，参见钻头。

镐是用于移除（“采挖”）物块和家具的工具，通常会将它们转化为物品形式。请注意，移除的物块包括矿石和放置的木材块。不过，他们不能移除背景墙（这需要改用锤），也不能砍倒树（这需要斧头或链锯）。它也能兼做基本的近战武器。一些困难模式级别的镐有着钻头对应物。新玩家出生时会带有一把铜镐。

在评估镐的实际效率时，需要考虑两件事：需要的总敲击数（来自于镐力），以及每次敲击需要的嘀嗒数，来自于低挖矿速度——更多细节参见相应页面。忽略使用时间属性，该属性反映的是武器的挥舞/动画，与采挖的敲击无关。

镐可以用上增加速度的修饰语，比如迅捷和轻。拥有近战速度奖励的配饰只会影响武器的挥舞，但不会影响采挖的敲击（影响使用速度而非挖矿速度）。
